This year for the Hubbard family party, my mom planned a Christmas Around the World event. Everyone picked a country and then brought a food from that country and shared a Christmas tradition from there.
There was sooooo much food, it was delicious!
This is everyone paying attention to what all the food was and where it came from.
After we ate it was time to learn about the traditions.
The countries we learned about were Germany, Argentina, England, Russia, Spain, Ecuador, Australia, China, and Japan.
In Germany they have a parade in the streets and then end up around a bonfire.
While we were gone for the parade, St. Nicholos left things in our shoes!
Isn't Zane a cute baby?
In Australia they go to the beach!
The crowns came from England!
Playing red rover, which is similar to a game played Russia. Boys against girls--I'm pretty sure the girls dominated!
Some of the countries I didn't get pictures for, but in Ecuador we learned how to play with their version of a top, in Spain we learned about the legend of La Befana, in Argentina we played with sparklers, in China they let off lanterns into the air, and in Japan they use the day to celebrate love.
Grandma ended the night by reading the book "How Lucky you Are" by Dr. Suess. After we all opened our presents from each other. My Aunt Diane gave us a bunch of "snowballs" so of course there was a giant snowball fight!
What a great night, with lots of great memories made!
